Glass Tempering

Toughened or Tempered Glass
Toughened or tempered glass is key in safety glass. It gets strength-boosting thermal or chemical treatments. Tempering creates balanced internal stresses, making it break into small, harmless granular chunks instead of dangerous shards, reducing injury risks.
Thanks to its safety and strength, it’s widely used. In cars, passenger vehicle windows use it as a reliable shield. Bathrooms’ shower doors combine function and safety. In architecture, glass doors and tables look good and endure daily use. Refrigerator trays stay intact with regular handling. It’s in bulletproof glass and diving masks for security and underwater use. And in the kitchen, plates and cookware can handle high heat.
Since 1977, US federal law requires glass within 18 inches (46 cm) of floors or doorways to be tempered.
Kindly Note:
Shape or drill holes in the glass before tempering. After tempering, cutting or drilling will shatter it into small thumbnail-sized pieces, ruining it.
